01

General & About

What is a ryotei?+

A ryotei is a traditional Japanese dining house where cuisine, architecture, garden, service and ceremony are designed as one complete experience. We offer seasonal kaiseki dishes, classic Japanese spaces, and heartfelt hospitality.

When was Tsukiji Jisaku established?+

Tsukiji Jisaku was founded in 1931, beside the Sumida River in central Tokyo. The property itself was originally built in 1899 as a private residence, and its long history can still be felt in the architecture and garden today.

Is Tsukiji Jisaku members-only?+

No. We are not members-only. Both domestic and international guests are warmly welcome, whether visiting for the first time or returning.

Do you have English-speaking staff and an English menu?+

Yes. We have English-speaking staff, and English menus are available. Please let us know your group's language needs when making an enquiry so we can prepare accordingly.

Are children welcome?+

Yes. We regularly host family celebrations such as okuizome (the first-meal ceremony) and shichi-go-san, and children's meal sets are available. Please tell us the ages of any children when you enquire so we can prepare the room and menu accordingly.

02

Reservations

How do I make a reservation?+

Reservations can be made through our enquiry form or by telephone. For courses, private rooms, dietary needs, or cultural experiences, we recommend contacting us in advance so we can recommend the most suitable arrangement.

How far in advance should I book?+

As menus and ingredients are prepared with care for each guest, we recommend booking as early as possible — especially for larger groups, private rooms, celebrations, and cultural experiences, which may require additional preparation time.

Can I make a reservation for one guest?+

We are sorry, but reservations for a single guest are not accepted. All meals are served in private rooms, with arrangements available for approximately 2 to 120 guests.

Can I change or cancel my reservation?+

Yes. Please contact us as early as possible if your plans change. Because dishes are prepared individually for each booking, a cancellation fee of 100% of the food and room charge applies to cancellations, or reductions in the number of guests, made after 4:00 p.m. on the day before the reservation.

Can I book a table online in English?+

Yes. You can reserve online in English through our booking page. For private rooms, family celebrations and corporate events we recommend sending an enquiry instead, so that we can plan the room, menu and timing with you.

03

Dining & Cuisine

What kind of cuisine do you serve?+

We serve seasonal Japanese cuisine, including kaiseki multi-course dining, our signature mizutaki chicken hot pot, in-room tempura, and Japanese wagyu prepared as sukiyaki or shabu-shabu. Each course is created to reveal the natural character of the ingredients.

What is mizutaki?+

Mizutaki is Tsukiji Jisaku's most celebrated dish — a refined chicken hot pot built around a deeply flavoured broth prepared over many hours. Simple in appearance yet layered in flavour, it reflects the Japanese belief that true excellence comes from care, repetition, and respect for the essentials.

Does the menu change with the season?+

Yes. Our menu changes with the landscape outside. We work with trusted suppliers to select ingredients at their seasonal peak, so each visit reflects what is special about that particular season.

Is there a dress code?+

There is no strict dress code. However, shoes are removed at the entrance and the corridors and private rooms are tatami, so we kindly ask guests to wear socks (no bare feet).

What time do you serve lunch and dinner?+

Lunch is served from 11:00 to 16:00 (last order 14:00) and dinner from 17:00 to 22:00 (last order 20:00). We are open every day of the week.

How much does a meal cost?+

Course menus are ¥27,500 or ¥35,000 per guest for our seasonal kaiseki, mizutaki, sukiyaki and shabu-shabu. The tempura course is ¥35,000, and special courses are ¥55,000 or ¥88,000. A private room fee from ¥13,200 per room and a service charge (15% at lunch, 20% at dinner) are added, together with 10% consumption tax. As a guide, dinner for 4 guests including drinks comes to about ¥212,520 in total.

04

Dietary Requirements

Can you accommodate vegetarian or vegan requests?+

Yes. We will do our best to accommodate vegetarian and vegan dining. Please share full details in advance so we can prepare dedicated dishes for you.

Can you accommodate pork-free meals?+

We are happy to discuss pork-free meals and other cultural or religious dietary considerations. Please let us know your needs when making an enquiry so we can recommend suitable options.

Can you accommodate allergies?+

Yes. Please inform us of any allergies or ingredient sensitivities in advance. As menus are prepared individually, advance notice is essential so that we can prepare your meal with care.

05

Private Rooms & Groups

Do you have private rooms?+

Yes. We have 19 private rooms of various sizes, and all meals are served in private rooms. Many rooms overlook our traditional Japanese garden.

How many guests can you accommodate?+

We can accommodate private rooms for approximately 2 to 120 guests, from intimate gatherings to larger celebrations and events. Room recommendations can be made based on your group size and purpose.

Is Tsukiji Jisaku suitable for celebrations?+

Yes. We welcome birthdays, anniversaries, honeymoons, family reunions, proposals, and other milestone occasions. Celebrations can be enhanced with kimono dressing, garden photography, seasonal celebratory dishes, traditional entertainment, and more.

Are private rooms suitable for confidential meetings?+

Yes. Private rooms are available, and arrangements can be tailored to the nature of your gathering, including confidential executive meetings. Please share your requirements in advance so we can recommend the most suitable arrangement.

Do I have to sit on the floor?+

No. Alongside traditional tatami seating, we have rooms with horigotatsu — a sunken floor beneath the low table, so you can sit comfortably with your legs down — and rooms with ordinary tables and chairs. Please tell us your preference when you book and we will prepare a suitable room.

06

Cultural Experiences

What cultural experiences can I book?+

We offer a range of private cultural experiences, including tea ceremony, kintsugi, wagashi making, calligraphy, ikebana, kimono dressing, and kabuki makeup, as well as private entertainment such as geisha, shamisen and koto music, and Edo Tezuma.

Can we combine a cultural activity with a meal?+

Yes. Tea ceremony, kintsugi, wagashi making, calligraphy, kimono dressing, and other experiences can be combined with a private kaiseki lunch or dinner to create a full cultural day.

Can you arrange geisha entertainment or traditional music?+

Yes. Depending on the date, group size, and occasion, we may be able to arrange geisha entertainment, shamisen and koto performances, kabuki-inspired performances, Edo Tezuma, and other forms of traditional entertainment. Cultural experiences such as geisha and shamisen performances are available as options. Please contact us to arrange them.

Can we wear kimono during dining or a cultural activity?+

Yes. Kimono dressing can be combined with private dining, tea ceremony, cultural workshops, and photography in the garden — a memorable way to mark a honeymoon, anniversary, or special day in Tokyo.
